About this exhibit
Historic First Appearance of British Home Children at the Canadian Museum of History (2017)
This long term exhibit opened during Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017, this landmark exhibit marked the first inclusion of British Home Children in the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec. Developed through a collaboration between the museum, Lori Oschefski, and Judy Neville, the exhibit features the personal stories and artifacts of British Home Children Cecil Bennett and Winnifred Payne. Bennett's artifacts were donated by his family, while Payne's historical documents were acquired by Lori Oschefski. This historic recognition brought the experiences and contributions of British Home Children into Canada's national historical narrative.
